National Kidney Preservation Service
In October 2022, Organ Recovery Systems won the tender to provide kidney preservation services for the National Reimbursement Program for kidney transplants in Belgium. Through our National Kidney Preservation Service, hypothermic machine preservation (HMP) on LifePort Kidney Transporter has become the standard of care for ECD and DCD kidneys in the country, resulting in improved renal outcomes and an expanded the pool of available kidneys for transplantation.
Organ Recovery Systems is honored to have been selected as the provider for The National Reimbursement Program, which is expected to continue to make a significant impact on the lives of patients in need of kidney transplants. In less than one year, the National Kidney Preservation Service (working in close collaboration with the seven renal procurement and transplant teams) has performed more than 200 procedures.
Oxygenation
Per the national perfusion protocol, kidneys from DCD donors over 50 years old must be perfused with the addition of oxygen. Since beginning the program, more than half of the donor kidneys (110) have been preserved by oxygenated HMP with LifePort Kidney Transporter.
