LifePort® Kidney Transporter 1.1 Training

LifePort Kidney Transporter is an insulated, portable medical device used for the continuous hypothermic machine perfusion of kidneys for the preservation, transportation and eventual transplantation into a recipient. In order to best serve our clients, we created a series of videos on how to prepare the LifePort Kidney Transporter system. LifePort Kidney Transporter 1.1 (Full Training Video)

Watch this video for start-to-finish instruction on how to prepare the LifePort Kidney Transporter system, from prepping the required supplies at the home base station to cleaning up after the perfusion case.

Selecting a Home Base

A home base station should be designated for each LifePort Kidney Transporter where it can be set up and recharged between perfusion cases. Before you receive the call that LifePort Kidney Transporter is needed, keep it ready to go by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are packed and ready to go to the recovery site, as seen in this video.

Cooling Down LifePort Kidney Transporter

Providing a stable, cold environment for the explanted kidney is an integral part of LifePort Kidney Transporter system. To avoid freezing the kidney, use only ice (crushed or cubed is best!) and water in LifePort Kidney Transporter Ice Container. Use this video to refresh your memory on best practices.

Loading the Perfusion Circuit

LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Perfusion Circuit contains the fluid management components necessary for perfusing a single kidney under aseptic conditions. Decanting perfusate and loading the Perfusion Circuit onto the LifePort Kidney Transporter Pump Deck might seem intimidating at first, but after watching this video, you’ll see how all the components work together.

Entering Organ ID Information

LifePort Kidney Transporter has the ability to store and display the explanted kidney Organ ID, kidney type (right or left), blood type, and cross clamp time. No more flipping back and forth between perfusion prep and donor documentation; LifePort Kidney Transporter can display the kidney information for you.

Cannulating the Kidney with the Universal SealRing® Cannula – with patch

A large range of LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Cannula types and sizes are available, making it possible to choose the cannula most compatible to the anatomy of the kidney. This video shows a kidney with an aortic patch being cannulated with LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Universal SealRing Cannula.

Cannulating the Kidney with the Universal SealRing Cannula – without patch

A large range of LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Cannula types and sizes are available, making it possible to choose the cannula most compatible to the anatomy of the kidney. This video shows a kidney without an aortic patch being cannulated with LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Universal SealRing Cannula.

Cannulating the Kidney with the SealRing® Cannula

A large range of LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Cannula types and sizes are available, making it possible to choose the cannula most compatible to the anatomy of the kidney. This video shows a kidney with an aortic patch being cannulated with LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable SealRing Cannula.

Cannulating the Kidney with the Straight Cannula

A large range of LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Cannula types and sizes are available, making it possible to choose the cannula most compatible to the anatomy of the kidney. This video shows a kidney without an aortic patch being cannulated with LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Straight Cannula. This cannula should only be used when potential intimal lining damage is not a concern.

Cannulating the Kidney – Connecting Multiple Cannulas with a Coupler

A large range of LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Cannula types and sizes are available, making it possible to choose the cannula most compatible to the anatomy of the kidney. Sometimes there will be kidneys with multiple vessels to perfuse. This video shows how to connect two or more cannulas with LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable Coupler.

Placing the Kidney in Kidney Cradle

Watch this video to see how to carefully secure the kidney in the Kidney Cradle after cannulation.

Placing Kidney in LifePort Kidney Transporter

Once you have the kidney secured within the Kidney Cradle, check out this video on how to apply LifePort Kidney Transporter Sterile Drape and how to gently transfer the cannulated kidney to the LifePort Kidney Transporter system.

Priming the Infuse Line

Before we can start perfusing the kidney, we have to make sure the Infuse Line is primed with perfusate and ready to go. Watch this video on how to get it started.

Initiating Perfusion

After ensuring the Infuse Line is primed, it’s time to select a pumping pressure. LifePort Kidney Transporter has a default setting of 30 mmHg, but is adjustable according to perfusion needs. This video will show you how to adjust the pressure and how to start perfusing the kidney.

Closing LifePort Kidney Transporter

LifePort Kidney Transporter is designed for unattended use, with no need for continuous monitoring of the kidney. Watch this video to see exactly how to close the system, while maintaining sterility.

Checking Parameters

LifePort Kidney Transporter Outer Display provides comprehensive information on the status of perfusion, providing information on pressure, flow, resistance, and temperature. Press the PLOT/CLEAR button on the far-left side to temporarily display trending data for flow and resistance.

Removing the Kidney

Watch this video on how to carefully remove the Kidney Cradle, with the cannulated kidney, from the LifePort Kidney Transporter system.

Cleaning Up After a Case

All LifePort Kidney Transporter Disposable products should be discarded in accordance with local guidelines for biomedical waste. Watch this video for a refresher on how to clean up after a perfusion case.

Swapping Batteries

If you’re traveling a far distance with LifePort Kidney Transporter, or you forgot to charge the batteries, that’s okay! LifePort Kidney Transporter draws power from one battery at a time, so this video can show you how to swap out depleted batteries for fully charged ones without interrupting perfusion. Remember to plug LifePort Kidney Transporter into AC mains whenever possible.

Using LifePort Kidney Transporter Cover

LifePort Kidney Transporter Cover provides easy handling and enhanced protection during travel. The Display Panel is visible through LifePort Kidney Transporter Cover at all times, and has separate, secure storage for donor documentation and cross match samples.
